Reta Green


Reta Green is a registered Clinical Psychologist who is best known in Calgary for her expertise in marital therapy and relationship counselling. She brings years of advanced training and experience to her work with couples who are experiencing difficulties in the areas of communication, conflict resolution, addictions, sexuality and parenting.

Other areas of speciality include counselling for trauma, attachment, depression and anxiety (panic attacks, social anxiety, compulsive behaviours, generalized anxiety disorder and PTSD). She also offers insight and experience in the field of addictions, ranging from substance abuse addictions (drug and alcohol) to behavioural addictions (pornography, sexual compulsivity, gambling, Internet).


Reta has extensive training in the field of psycho-drama and other experiential action methods and expressive techniques. She has facilitated weekly group therapy sessions for several years in the areas of personal growth and empowerment. The techniques that are so powerful in doing group work have also proven to be very useful tools in both individual and couple therapy sessions.

Reta's primary therapeutic approach is cognitive behavioural in nature, but she also integrates several other modalities and perspectives depending on the client's issues, needs and style of learning. Her wide-ranging trainings give her many "tools" in her tool kit, and she is able to tailor therapy session to the needs of each client. These might include solution focus therapy, mindfulness, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and interpersonal, client-centered therapy. In general, her clients are adults (including seniors) who are looking for ways to effect desired changes and growth in their day to day behaviours and relationships.

Pursuing continued learning in several areas has been key for Reta, and she has advanced her professional credentials on a regular basis by attending conferences, workshops and seminars. She is a member in good standing in several professional associations including the College of Alberta Psychologists, the Psychologists' Association of Alberta, and the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers. She has been qualified as an expert witness in the court system.

Reta is committed to providing therapeutic strategies to her clients that have proven to be effective and results-oriented. Clients appreciate her compassion, her insightfulness and her directness. Her goal in counselling is to provide each client with a safe and supportive environment so that they may deal with their difficult emotions and their behavioural patterns, in order to attain a full and creative life.
